The Confraternity of the Santissimo Rosario:
faith and history in the community of Isola

An important historical treasure of Isola del Gran Sasso is the confraternity del Santissimo Rosario. In 1571, a papal bull issued by Pope Gregory XIII authorised the foundation of this confraternity of the Holy Rosary, celebrating the Christian victory in the Battle of Lepanto and the recitation of the rosary as a symbol of protection. Over the centuries, a precious illuminated script has been kept in the sacristy of the parish church of Isola del Gran Sasso, which in 1922 was set in a sealed case to ensure its conservation and transmission to future generations.
